Eulogy: Sarah zecca Mobley

A Native American and Celtic view

An Interfaith celebration of the spirit of the person

Dedicate to her, her family and friends...

Sarah Zecca Mobley Beloved wife, mother, daughter in law, sister in law, aunt to Chloe and Quinn, mother in law, and friend to many...

Dear Sarah: You suffered much in your last few days here. You were only 57 when you left us and your high school sweetheart of 41 years. Now your life have slipped its earthly bonds, and your spirit dances in our memories forever.

You and we are the first generation of humans to know, really know and understand that we share our DNA with every living thing. That is, we all come from a common source biologically. Since we share DNA with every living thing, we humans are literally sisters and brothers to every living thing. We are birthed from the stuff of the stars, quite literally. This is science, not spedulation or fiath, certain science not conjecture.

Here is offered for your family and friends a "leave taking" mediation in both the Celtic and the Native American tradition--respecting our intimate connection with every earthly thing. The ancient Celtic spirit recognizes all of nature as a reflection of the divine other with vast and hidden connectedness and giftedness

Dear Sarah: (pause)

When the coming of your passing became an awareness on the planet, some wondrous events began to happen.

The word went out that you were preparing to leave, to leave this place that you called home.

"Our sister Sarah is coming." And "Sa-rah, Sa-rah" began to be whispered everywhere, like a musical chant...

The word was heard by the wind and it promised to blow under you and send you as gentle cello sounds through the trees.

The clouds heard the sounds and billowed for joy. "You may land on us and float for a while."

The rain said, "I'll wash the air clean," while each star polished itself to a brilliant shine.

In the presence of your impending death, the earth prepared to send you forth as it rolled through space , slowing turning like a huge turtle’s back and moving around the sun.

The gravity that had held you so tightly began to lose its grip.

It called, "Let loose, Let loose, Let loose and fly, fly, fly...."

As your soul began to rise and float upwards,

a squirrel noticed and remembered;

remembered how you saved, saved those things that were important.

Squirrel told the rabbit, who told the turtle, who told the birds.

"Sarah's coming," they whispered. The birds sang your memories a joyous release, beautiful warbling.

The song was heard by a lone wolf. The lone wolf stood on a cold tundra, howling her appreciation of all the lessons you learned so well.

Some distant great pines heard the howl and nodded in the wind swaying, releasing their fragrance to waft sweetly with you.

The fragrance was gathered in by the swiftest of hawks,

flying high with the wisdom that the great hawk knows.

The hawk told a passing eagle who swooped and soared until,

finding your spirit loose on the wind, carried it forward through rain showers, to a joyous rainbow.

The rainbow said, "Come, Sarah, I've been waiting. My colors are all for you! They celebrate the diversity of your gifts and talents and the ways you honored them. "

When the moon heard this, she murmured, "Prepare! A life well lived is approaching! The light of her life will, like my own light, illuminate some darkness for others."

Then the stars again polished their shimmering until the Milky Way galaxy, home of planet Earth ,was sparkling from East to West.

Your soul glimpsed the brilliance of all these lights and knew it was going home. Home. Home....

Home to the light, home to the sun and home beyond home, beyond galaxy, star dust once more.

And you met with all that you had always known: the silent and brilliant mystery of heaven,. Your Source, our Source, which now is now at this moment, welcoming you home.

The entire mystery burst with the splendor of "Welcome, welcome, Sarah Zecca Mobley, we have been waiting."

Then the Source, with all your ancestors gathered round--Your mother, your father, your grandparents, and 10,000 grandmothers and grandfather back to the very beginning. This enormous crown of heaven welcomed and enfolded you and danced your coming, in the quiet harmony of all the spheres.

There was an oh so gentle pause, a deep sigh, as All of nature swayed and bent to welcome your spirit. A brand new snowflake drifted down, singular in its beauty, floating, floating, resting softly on fallen leaves, close to one of those many slopes you skied with your family.

While far away, in the world you had known, a group of your loved and also gifted ones, with many friends, gathered to speak your praises, to sing your leaving, hearts dancing with their memories of you, and forever to remember.

One poet said:

"For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt unto the sun?

And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides

that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when you have reached the mountain top--then shall you begin to climb.

And when the earth shall claim you limbs, then shall you truly dance." (-Kahil Gibran)

Another poet said: "What is lovely never dies, but quietly passes into other loveliness, Star dust, Sea foam, Flower, Winged ai r." (Thomas Bailey Aldrich) Into the loveliness in, around and amongst us, which only the heart can see.

We come from star dust and pass back into star dust, but something of our loveliness lingers and is forever remembered.

The loveliness of the spirit of Sarah Zecca has passed into the loveliness of all those who knew her n so many ways.

Thank you, Dear Sarah, for all your life, your love of Stephen and others, your caring, your inquiring mind, loving heart and your courage. You now live with us, in our hearts forever. Thank you for the giftedness of your life.

Today we honor and celebrate your life...Thank you, Sarah.
