Course/SIG Info & Description:

An OLLI SIG that will start with weekly online conversation, using this text The Secret Life of the Grown0UP Brain, by Barbara Strauch.
Learn the ten known guidelines to keep a buoyant health into your 80s and further. Come April, we will meet monthly and continue as long as the group decides. Required is obtaining this text and access to computer.

In deciding whether I would take a similar online course using this text, I downloaded this book from Amazon, after reading Amazon reviews, to my new kindle, as my first read. Liked it so much could hardly put my kindle down. Everyone in midlife should read this or better take this course.

What was exciting to me, who has taught and practiced a total mind body spirit wellness for 30 years, (background as a monk, athlete and coach) was to find that my frind Charlie Eyer and I are on the RIGHT page, according to all neuroscience research. ..Despite myself being labeled by the VA as “Catastrophically Disabled, and being treated for some ten health conditions.

To really learn something we mush learn it twice, and sometimes 3 or 4X after the age of sixty, for it is stick. One of the best ways to really learn something is to teach it. So I am offering to teach this in 12 lessons online. As soon as spring arrives we will meet several times and then see where this goes.

This text has some failings which I will identify. But it, IMO, is a must read for all of us in middle age who want to know how to build “cognitive reserve,” to slow the aging process and maintain a buoyant health and attitude through our senior years, even our ninth decade.
